" Tree's Adventure Making New Friends"

 Interviewer:

"What made you think of a walking tree?"

Author:

"The story idea came to me two fold through my kids. First my daughter had been studying the health of trees at home then during her college years. She was working on her Masters Thesis paper in Microbiology at UC Davis at the time. I was intrigued by her dedication and devotion in wanting to help find a solution to the Sudden Oak Death (SOD) problem. She grew up with Oak trees all around her neighborhood and the thought of losing them to a fungus really upset her. Secondly, my Son had just left for Boston to study on the East Coast. When I thought about how he wouldn't know anyone over there, the making new friends part, came from that. There were several other reasons I wanted Tree to be motivated; the major one was because at the time I was in need of change myself. I was in need of a healthy goal oriented change."

Interviewer:

"Why an Alphabet book with Alliterations?"

Author:

"I wanted to illustrate the book with my own cartoony characters and write sing-songy alliterations that would get you to laugh. I wanted the images to be rather involved so you'd have to spend some time with the pages. Using colored pencils was easier than using acrylics like in my first book, also not having to draw one character so many times and in different ways made it more enjoyable."

"Reading and literature for children open the doors to many imaginative minds. This book is a family-type "ABC " picture-book rather unusual and for ALL ages.
Alliterations can be challenging, especially when read aloud, they are rather like tongue twisters." KMS

@GoGo Daat and @TumpskyandMrsSmall Viewers!

As some of you already know, I've been working on this book for over three years, and it just about time to launch! This means I need to come up with a great Party Idea so you can join in too! If you have any suggestions, not only does it tell me you're reading my blog, but it will put you in the running for a big picture book surprise! I've been challenged keeping this book in process and feel really good about sharing it with you.
We'll have to have a GiveAway for sure when it gets printed!  Now it's final editing time which may take a few more days, and printing out the copy for each page. I've got some ideas for the cover so I'm working on that as well.  It's a process for sure! Got to go teach my kiddo's at Pre-school now! Thanks for reading to the end, and saying hello, ahead of time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Small

Alphabet Sign Language A-Z

Encourage Kids to Learn to Sign Their ABC's!

The Love of Miming the Hand Letters!

I have been teaching my Preschool Montessori children how to 'Sign the Alphabet' and they are having great fun wanting to learn. The younger 2-year-olds don't quite get it, but they start seeing what the older kids are doing and find it interesting. We are only up to the letter Ee, but now when we sing the alphabet, the hand automatically goes up. The kids love copying the teacher's hands as we are having fun learning.

Here is a picture of the hand signs for your convenience.

Have the children start signing simple words; or the theme of your curriculum say if you might be learning about pets.
