Shapes, Size and Counting - Sorting Colors - Beginning Reader #readaloud

I Love the 3 S's: Shapes, Size, Sorting!

With the Extra Add-on, Counting!

    As a Teacher

This is a lovely book that contains many ways of learning wrapped up into one work of art. I know it's a book, but it's also considered art in my personal opinion. Can art become math! Of course and in this jewel of an aid for learning, it is a keeper. In fact, I may try to emulate what this author has done in another book idea I want to develope.

But why, you ask, is this one so great!  Three reasons come to mind... First, it is simple in style. The creatures for example are basic shapes, with basic colors, with different sizes. Numerous blends of pertinent question can be asked, for example; An owl is a square that has one primary color. A snail is a circle, with a secondary color. A whale is a blue triangle. Rudimentary shapes, colors, etc. make for simplistic form and easy likability for the young in mind.  Secondly, there aren't so many words filling up the page.  Beginning readers, sounding out one or two words.  Thirdly, this is a book intended for beginning geometry ie; shapes, size, and how they can be sorted, small, medium, large. Fourthly, because I just thought of it... is because it is mathematical. It sings; count me, design me, color me, sort!

Mathematics - Addition Strategies Level 2

 100th Shopper Wins Prizes!

Animated!

An animated, page-turning, fun Read Aloud for 1st Grader's and 2nd Grader's. The author embraces different Math Adding Strategies for kids so as to make numbers easier to add; for example, how would you total up 5+5+5+6 in your head? Count by fives and then add the 1. Right? 5+5+5+5+1= 21.

I also chose to animate this book as a Youtube picturebook read-aloud for extra fun. The words underlining's sparkle as the sentences are read..

I think the kids will enjoy this along with other math books on the Tumpsky and Mrs Small Youtube channel or @TumpskyandMrsSmall.  The animation was created on Apple Keynote.

2nd Grade/3rd Grade Math at the Car Wash!

 Decimal and Cents

Stuart J Murphy Children's Book has some beneficial teaching about learning how to making change from $5's, and $1's.  A very nice math story about a baseball team earning money for new jersey's. It's called, Sluggers'Car Wash  Level 3 Dollars and Cents

Learning how to have fun for the team!
Learning math Dollars and Cents!

Mrs. Small reads aloud Slugger's Car Wash using voices in the dialog. It's my first attempt so be nice. It's taught me an appreciation for VO that is for sure in making a video. I have animated an example of a curriculum idea about going shopping. The ideas is to have your child select items from the store they want to purchase and then add them up and make change from a larger bill. $10. $20.  In my example I used a $10 and a $5.

The animation was created using Keynote, which is an application that comes with an Apple Mac. If you Google you may be able to download. I also give tutorials using Keynote and am open to help you out if you are learning this app. Contact me below.
